In a dramatic episode of the show “Bares für Rares”, two participants, Inge and Christian – from Basel, Switzerland – surprised the judges and the negotiating team by bringing in a **old BMW billboard**.

The billboard used to belong to their uncle, who owned a local bicycle and motorcycle repair and sales shop. Despite the age and some minor repairs, the item still exudes **significant historical and aesthetic value**.

Expert Sven Deutschmanek – who is well-known on the show for his extensive knowledge of antiques – immediately identified it as an **original enamel billboard from the 1930s**, an early period in BMW’s history.

He explained that at this time, BMW mainly produced **aircraft engines and motorcycles**, not fully entering the automotive sector as it does today. The logo on the plate is printed in an old-fashioned serif typeface called *Serifen*, and the metallic gold color gives it a luxurious, classic look.

Sven also pointed out the repairs on the plate – such as a different shade of gold due to repainting, or a small manufacturing defect in one corner – but he stressed that these do not detract from the collectible value of the item. On the contrary, this is **a rare example** of an old enamel advertising plate from the interwar period.

With all these factors in mind, **an initial estimate of 500 to 700 euros** was given. However, no one expected **the auction to be so heated that it would cause a “storm” in the negotiating room**.

The bidders started bidding at 300 euros, but within minutes the numbers had skyrocketed. The atmosphere became tense as the bids exceeded 1,000 euros – an extremely rare level on the show. In the end, **dealer Jan won with a “huge” 1,500 euros**, far exceeding the initial estimate.

Inge and Christian could not hide their joy and surprise. They left the show with big smiles and a considerable sum of money – and the old BMW plate became one of the **highest-priced items in the history of “Bares für Rares”**.

> **“Gefährlich und teuer”** – “Dangerous and expensive”: a true “Bares für Rares” auction, where a small item can spark a fierce and emotional competition.
